What makes a HausWhiskerfell kitten different?
HausWhiskerfell is an intentionally small, preservation-focused Maine Coon program with an active show presence in San Diego, California.
We do not breed for volume or constant availability. Each pairing is thoughtfully planned around health, temperament, pedigree, structure, and the Maine Coon breed standard, with a particular focus on blue and black Maine Coons in smoke, solid, and tabby expressions.
Our kittens remain with us until at least 20 weeks of age, allowing us additional time to know them individually, support their development, complete their veterinary care, and prepare them thoughtfully for life with their future families.
For us, the goal is not simply to raise beautiful kittens. It is to raise exceptional Maine Coons with the foundation to become extraordinary lifelong companions.
What does the price of a HausWhiskerfell kitten reflect?
Welcoming one of our kittens is an investment in far more than pedigree or appearance.
Behind every placement are thoughtfully selected bloodlines, carefully planned pairings, health screening, veterinary care, quality nutrition, daily socialization, enrichment, grooming, individual evaluation, and more than four months of hands-on care before a kitten ever leaves us.
Our kittens are not sent home with a list of veterinary procedures still waiting to be completed. They remain in our care through their early development, vaccinations, veterinary examinations, spay or neuter procedure and recovery, and final placement evaluation.
This extended approach requires considerably more time and investment from us, but we believe those additional weeks are invaluable in preparing a kitten for the transition into its new home.
How much are your kittens?
Companion placements begin at $4,250 USD. Each HausWhiskerfell placement reflects the thoughtful breeding, extended developmental care, veterinary preparation, and individual evaluation that are part of our program.

For kittens placed primarily as beloved companions.Select Smoke Placement: $4,800–$5,200

For kittens retained longer for structural and developmental evaluation and offered based on their potential in relation to the Maine Coon breed standard.
Final pricing is determined individually based on development, structural evaluation, coat expression, and placement.
Regardless of placement tier, every HausWhiskerfell kitten receives the same comprehensive veterinary care, pre-placement spay or neuter, socialization, individual attention, and extended raising period of 20 weeks or longer before joining their new family.
What is included with my kitten?
Every HausWhiskerfell companion kitten is carefully prepared before joining its new family and goes home with:
• TICA registration
• Completed age-appropriate vaccination series
• Rabies vaccination when age appropriate
• Veterinary examinations and health records
• Spay or neuter completed before placement
• Microchip
• DNA testing/documentation provided with the kitten’s records
• Parasite prevention and appropriate veterinary care

Our intention is for families to bring home a kitten that has already received an exceptional foundation of care.
Why do your kittens go home at 20 weeks or later?
We intentionally keep our kittens longer than many breeding programs.
Those additional weeks allow our kittens to continue learning from their mother and littermates during an important stage of social and emotional development. They also allow us to better understand each kitten’s personality, structure, confidence, and individual needs.
During this time, kittens continue receiving socialization, enrichment, grooming, veterinary care, vaccinations, and preparation for their spay or neuter procedure. They are given time to recover fully before transitioning to a new environment.
While we understand the excitement of bringing home a very young kitten, we believe there is tremendous value in allowing them this additional time to mature.
Waiting a little longer is an investment in the years that follow.
Will an older kitten still bond with me?
Absolutely.
A kitten’s ability to form a deep bond with its family does not disappear at twelve or sixteen weeks. Genetics, temperament, positive early experiences, and thoughtful socialization play a much greater role.
Our kittens leave us confident, affectionate, accustomed to human interaction, and ready to build a relationship with their new families.
Many families find that the additional maturity actually makes the transition easier.
Our Breeding Program
What does preservation breeding mean to HausWhiskerfell?
Preservation breeding means looking beyond a single litter.
Every breeding decision contributes to the generations that follow. We consider health, temperament, pedigree, genetic compatibility, structure, breed type, and diversity when planning each pairing.
Our responsibility is not simply to reproduce Maine Coons, but to protect the qualities that define the breed while continually working toward healthier, stronger, and more consistent future generations.
Why does HausWhiskerfell participate in cat shows?
Showing is an important part of how we evaluate our breeding program.
At TICA shows, our cats are examined by experienced judges and evaluated against the Maine Coon breed standard. This provides an objective perspective beyond our own opinion and helps us identify both the strengths of our program and areas we can continue improving.
Titles and awards are wonderful accomplishments, but the greater value of showing is the information it gives us as breeders.
We want the cats representing HausWhiskerfell to demonstrate that our breeding decisions are supported not only by beautiful photographs, but by evaluation in the show hall.
Do you breed specifically for blue and black Maine Coons?
Blue and black are at the heart of the HausWhiskerfell vision.
Our program has a particular appreciation for black and blue Maine Coons in smoke, solid, and tabby expressions, and our bloodlines are being developed thoughtfully around this vision.
However, color never takes priority over health, temperament, structure, or breed quality.
A beautiful color is only meaningful to us when it is carried by an equally exceptional Maine Coon.
Are smoke Maine Coons more expensive?
Certain smoke kittens may be priced at a premium.
Smoke requires specific genetics and is less commonly produced than many traditional tabby expressions. The quality of the expression can also vary considerably from kitten to kitten.
We evaluate each smoke individually, considering coat development and contrast alongside the kitten’s overall temperament, structure, health, and quality.
Color may influence placement price, but it is never the sole measure of a kitten’s value.
How do you select your breeding cats?
Our breeding cats are selected for much more than appearance.
We consider pedigree, genetic diversity, health history, temperament, structure, movement, breed type, and how each individual may complement the strengths and weaknesses of another cat within our program.
Many of our foundation cats were carefully selected from established European bloodlines that aligned with the direction we envisioned for HausWhiskerfell.
As our own generations develop, our goal is to increasingly build upon the qualities we have established within the HausWhiskerfell line.
How are your breeding cats health tested?
Health is one of the foundations of our breeding decisions.
Our breeding cats undergo comprehensive DNA screening before being included in our program. We also incorporate ongoing veterinary evaluation and HCM cardiac screening according to the individual cat’s breeding schedule and veterinary recommendations.
No screening program can guarantee that a cat will never develop a health condition. Our responsibility as breeders is to use the testing and information available to us thoughtfully and make breeding decisions with the long-term health of the breed in mind.
How often do your queens have kittens?
We intentionally maintain a limited breeding schedule.
Our queens are given substantial time between litters to recover physically and simply enjoy life outside of motherhood. Most are planned for approximately one litter within a breeding year, followed by an appropriate period of rest based on their individual condition and our veterinarian’s guidance.
Our breeding schedule revolves around our cats, not the other way around.
Choosing Your Kitten
How does your placement process work?
Once kittens have matured enough for us to begin evaluating temperament, development, and potential within our own program, available kittens are announced on our website and social media.
Interested families may then submit an application.
We take time to understand the home, lifestyle, expectations, other pets, and qualities each family is hoping for before confirming a placement.
Our goal is not simply to find a home for every kitten. It is to find the right home for each kitten.
Do you maintain a waitlist?
We do not maintain a traditional numbered waitlist.
Preferences, timing, family circumstances, and kitten availability can change considerably over several months. Instead, we announce kittens once we are comfortable making placement decisions.
This also means families are choosing from kittens whose personalities and development we have actually had time to observe rather than reserving solely from a newborn photograph.
Can I choose my kitten?
Yes.
Families are welcome to have preferences regarding color, sex, appearance, and personality. We enjoy learning what attracts you to a particular kitten.
At the same time, we will always share our observations about temperament and compatibility. Occasionally, the kitten someone initially notices may not be the kitten we believe will thrive best in that household.
Placement is ultimately a conversation between us rather than a simple first-come purchase.
Are kittens sold first come, first served?
No.
Inquiry order may be considered, but it does not determine placement.
The well-being of our kittens comes first, and we reserve the right to select the home we believe is most appropriate for each individual kitten.
We are intentionally selective because we hope every placement will be permanent.
Can I visit the cattery?
At this time, we are not offering home visits while we complete a dedicated area designed specifically for safe, controlled visits with biosecurity in mind.
Our goal is to create a space where approved families can meet our cats and kittens in an environment where they feel confident, relaxed, and completely at home. This also gives families a better opportunity to experience their natural temperaments and see how they interact within their familiar surroundings.
We hope to begin offering limited home visits as early as December 2026, once the space is completed and we are satisfied that it meets the health and biosecurity standards we want for our cattery.
Until then, meet-and-greets may be arranged at an appropriate pet-friendly public location once a kitten is fully vaccinated and ready for safe outings.
As our dedicated cat house is completed, we also plan to introduce live viewing of parts of the cattery, giving families a closer look at the environment, routines, and daily life behind the HausWhiskerfell program.
Do you place kittens outside San Diego?
Yes.
Although HausWhiskerfell is located in San Diego, California, we welcome carefully selected families throughout the United States and internationally.
Transportation is discussed individually, with the safety and comfort of the kitten taking priority over convenience.
Whenever possible, we prefer arrangements that minimize unnecessary travel and stress.
Do you offer breeding rights?
Breeding placements are rare and are not offered as a standard upgrade to a companion kitten.
They may be considered with established preservation breeders whose health testing, ethics, husbandry, and long-term breeding goals align with ours.
Protecting our bloodlines and the future of the Maine Coon breed is more important to us than making an additional sale.
Health, Commitment & Lifetime Support
What health guarantee comes with my kitten?
Every HausWhiskerfell kitten is placed with a written purchase agreement and health guarantee covering hereditary and congenital conditions as described within the contract.
Before leaving us, kittens receive comprehensive veterinary preparation and their medical records accompany them to their new home.
We also require families to establish care with their own veterinarian shortly after arrival so that their kitten begins its new life with an ongoing veterinary relationship.
Are kittens spayed or neutered before going home?
Yes. Companion kittens are spayed or neutered before placement.
Because our kittens remain with us beyond the age at which many breeders place their kittens, we are able to complete the procedure ourselves and allow the kitten to recover in familiar surroundings before introducing the additional stress of moving to a new home.
For the family, it is one more important responsibility that has already been thoughtfully completed.
Do you provide support after my kitten goes home?
Always.
Placement is not the end of our relationship with a family.
We remain available throughout your cat’s life for guidance regarding transition, nutrition, grooming, introductions, behavior, and general care.
We also genuinely enjoy watching our kittens grow and hearing about the lives they build with their families.
When you welcome a HausWhiskerfell kitten, you become part of a relationship we hope will continue for many years.
What happens if I can no longer care for my HausWhiskerfell cat?
Our responsibility to a cat does not end when that cat leaves our home.
If circumstances ever prevent a family from continuing to care for their HausWhiskerfell cat, we ask that they contact us first.
Our cats may not be surrendered to a shelter, rescue, sold, or independently rehomed without our involvement. Depending on the circumstances, we will either welcome the cat back or assist in carefully finding an appropriate permanent home.
Every cat produced by our program deserves that protection for life.
Can a HausWhiskerfell kitten be declawed?
No.
Declawing is prohibited under our placement agreement.
We believe our responsibility as breeders includes protecting the physical and emotional well-being of the cats we produce throughout their lives. Appropriate scratching surfaces, routine nail care, enrichment, and positive training provide humane alternatives without permanently altering the cat’s anatomy.
Are your kittens indoor-only?
Yes.
HausWhiskerfell kittens are placed as indoor companions.
Families who would like their cat to enjoy the outdoors are encouraged to provide safe alternatives such as a secure catio, enclosed outdoor area, or supervised harness adventures.
Our goal is for every HausWhiskerfell cat to enjoy a long, healthy and protected life.
A Thoughtful Beginning to a Lifelong Relationship
We understand that choosing a breeder and choosing to invest in a carefully bred Maine Coon is an important decision.
We encourage families to ask questions, research the breed, compare breeding programs, and choose the breeder whose values genuinely align with their own.
HausWhiskerfell will never be the right program for every family, and that is perfectly okay.
