First Foster Kittens of 2025: A Bittersweet Beginning
Today, I received a message from Chula Vista Animal Shelter about two tiny bottle babies needing urgent care. One is a black tuxedo, the other is a solid black kitten—both around two weeks old, big, chunky, and already melting hearts. Sadly, their mom passed away, which is why they were surrendered to the shelter. They’ll be staying with us until they’re strong and healthy enough to find their forever homes.
Luckily, we have a rescued mama cat who has kindly stepped up to nurse these two. It's such a relief to have her—there’s nothing quite like a real mama’s care for helping kittens thrive.
We haven’t picked out nicknames yet, so for now, I’m calling the tuxedo kitten Kitten 1, and the pure black one Kitten 2.
Kitten 1 is big, chunky, and already showing signs of strength. He’s lively, alert, and looks healthy—a promising start.
Kitten 2 is just as chunky but has a condition known as flat-chested kitten syndrome. We’ll be casting him later to help support and hopefully correct the shape of his chest. He’s eating well so far, and we’re keeping a close eye on him.
That’s it for now! Our foster journey begins again, and I’m looking forward to giving these little ones the best possible start in life—with a little help from their adoptive mama.
